The digital media vault from Munich

Through his work as a photographer and cameraman, Marc Conzelmann had close contact with companies and organisations for years — from product shoots to image film shoots. In the process, he experienced first-hand how much effort it took to deliver the resulting media to his clients afterwards.

Delivering the media meant juggling several different tools at once — one for photos, one for videos, one for quick file transfers in between. Not all of them were fully GDPR-compliant, and none of them lived in the same place. DAM solutions existed, but many were either very expensive, came from the US, or felt technically outdated.

Out of this experience came the idea for VAULO: a DAM as simple to use as possible, speaking Apple's language in its design, and priced within reach of smaller companies too — without cutting back on features. Because the data involved is sensitive, it was clear from the start that security could never be a compromise.

Founded together with Sebastian Küsters, VAULO has since grown with its customers — from the entry point for small teams all the way to enterprise use, with no system change required. It's still developed in close collaboration with customers today, not past the market.
